Ivor Andrew’s Stuff Series explains who we are and what makes us go. Today, Alex Laniosz, graphic designer, shares 11 of his favorite things.
Khaki: Cut from the Original Cloth: This book is filled with amazing photos of people wearing the most utilitarian of pants: khakis. It proves that the most basic, simple, and useful is often the most beautiful.
Broken Homme Boots: I wear boots absolutely everywhere (except for skateboarding, of course). This is my favorite pair, and they’re made in the USA!
Photo Prints: I love black and white photography. I'm still learning, so a lot of the images don't come out correctly. But I actually think the mess-ups are more interesting images than the ones that came out properly.
iPhone: Like everyone, I probably spend too much time looking at this screen. When I am on my phone, 9 times out of 10, I'm on Instagram. Follow me here and see what I see.
Pentax ME super: I got this camera from my dad and I absolutely love it. It is super basic and super durable. Perfect for everyday shooting.
Ilford XP2: This film allows me to create the grainy black and white images I love.
Pencils: "Photography is an immediate reaction. Drawing is a meditation." - Henri Cartier-Bresson
Journal: I was given this journal on my first day at Ivor Andrew and it helps keep me on track.
National Geographic Fashion: I tend to get narrow-minded because I pay too much attention to trendy stuff on the internet, so books like this remind me that there are beautiful ideas and cultures beyond what I'm exposed to every day.
Yohji Yamamoto: In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m a fashion junkie. Yohji is my favorite designer because he creates clothes that are both modern and classic at the same time. This book documents some of the powerful work he’s made throughout his career.
Harrington-style Jacket: I’ve had this jacket for years. It’s an updated version of a classic Harrington-style jacket. It’s constructed from a heavy cotton canvas and has a light wax coating that ages so well. It has proven to be super durable and remains one of my favorites.
